All you need to know about KVPY

A huge number of aspirants enrol for engineering entrance examinations in an attempt to get into the best of institutes. More than being tougher to attempt, those examinations are highly competitive, wherein only 1% of a million giving the exam actually make it through.

What is KVPY?

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a scholarship examination that is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. This program is aimed at fostering interests of students in careers based on research and pure sciences.

KVPY consists of 3 streams:

SA: Students from Grade 11 can appear in this category

SX: Students from Grade 12 can appear in this category

SB: Students studying Science in their initial year of graduation would be appearing in this category.

KVPY is held for the following subjects – Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology. It is a computer based examination that is held for a duration of 3 hours with Objective questions. The KVPY Examination would be held in English and Hindi.

Institutes that accept KVPY

IIITs: Students can pursue Electronics or Computer Science at Indian Institutes of Information technology. IIITs accept scores of KVPY, JEE Main and other Olympiads.

IISER: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune has published about 900 research papers and is a good place for candidates interested in pursuing their doctorate courses. Apart from JEE Advanced scores, KVPY examination is also accepted at this institute.

IISc: Tata Institute, popularly known as the Indian Institute of Science, is a good institute to pursue further study in courses of Science and Research. This institute accepts scores of JEE Main, JEE Advanced, KVPY and Olympiad, whichever has been given by students.

Preparation for KVPY

KVPY is an examination that is concerned with research purposes. Candidates who have already prepared for exams like JEE can further brush up their concepts by practicing previous year papers for KVPY. Concepts can be studied from NCERT books for a crisp understanding.

While other entrance exams might seem like too much of a competition and the pressure tough to handle, options like KVPY might help get through to institutes equivalent to the premier ones.
