Drywood Termites

This type of termites live in wood and make tunnels in wood structure where they eat, grow and lay eggs. This types of termites do severe damage to wood and grow rapidly, however, they are a bit easy to treat because they stay in their tunnels and don’t leave the wood.

Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites are a bit different than drywood termites. They also eat wood structures, but they live in mud. So they make their nests under the ground and come up side to wood structure to get food. This termites types can be spotted by the pencil size mud tubes which can be found on wood structure or even on concrete walls. These termites types are also very dangerous and do damage to wood on large scale, however the damage speed is comparatively slow than drywood termites. Pest control companies find it hard to treat this type of termites because these termites go underground after the treatment and grow again when the treatment is done so it takes a bit longer to get rid of them completely.

There are many ways to treat these little pests on your own. However, its recommended to call some professional pest control companies if the damage these little pests had done is on large scale. Here are few home remedies available which you can use to treat termites and can stop or at least slow down them from ruining your home.

Boric Acid

Boric acid is a commonly found chemical which you can purchase from any general store. This chemical is used for different purposes, but can also be effective to get rid if termites. The good this about boric acid is that, its totally safe for pets and kids. You can make a mixture of boric acid with water and apply it on the termite affected area with the help of brush or water gun. Boric acid takes no time start killing termites, however, it’s necessary to keep it applying twice a week to stay safe from termites.

Crude Oil

This product is not much popular as termite remedy, but it can also be used as pesticide product for termites. The bad thing about crude oil is that it leaves a bad smell in your house for a few hours, but you will find it very effective if you ignore the smell disadvantage. You can spray crude oil with the help of common sprayer on the surface of the affected area and leave it as it is for a few hours. Crude oil will start killing these nasty pests immediately, however, to gain best results you will have to apply it twice a week at the least.

Sun Light

Termites hate direct sunlight. They try to find areas where there is no direct sunlight and a high level of humidity in the air. So if you have a piece of furniture or any other moveable wood structure which is infected by termites, you can leave that in open air under direct sunlight. You may also try uncovering as much area as possible so the sunlight can reach directly to the tunnels created by termites.

These are few remedies which you can use to get rid of termites on your own. However, if the attack of these pests is on high level then its better to call some pesticide company to take care of the situation for you.
