Uterine fibroids – Symptoms, Causes & Cure:

Fibroids are one of the common gynecological complications which happen with women as they grow old. Fibroids are smooth tumors which occurs in the uterus. These are mostly made up of tissues. It can occur to women starting from the late 20s to 50s or even 60s. There are different types of fibroids categorized based on the location they occur. They are:

  1. Intramural fibroids occur within the walls of the uterus. As these are inside it is very difficult to find and more often this kind of fibroids do not show any symptoms at all. It can grow to a very large and hence can cause enlarged uterus. This will lead to other gynecological complication like abdominal pain and painful periods.
  2. Subserosal fibroids occur outside the uterus. Most often these are confused with ovarian cysts but there is a clear difference as these tumors grow on a part outside the uterus called as the serosa. These fibroids also grow larger and can make your womb look much bigger in size than they supposed to be.
  3. Pedunculated fibroids are extended versions of the subserosal fibroids which left untreated for a long time may develop a stem-like structure which is called as pedunculate. These are also very similar to their parent.
  4. Submucosal fibroids are very rare and they occur in the middle muscle layer of the uterus. These can cause severe gynecological complication and may even lead to cancer when left untreated.

When my mom had continuous and unbearable abdominal pain with irregular periods, we visited a good gynecologist near me and the fact we discovered after a scan was intramural fibroids. My mom was terrified in the beginning but the doctors advise and helped her come out of it. It becomes extremely important for you to understand the problem you are facing and what caused it. Some of the common reasons for fibroids to occur are:

  • Hormones – The hormone produced by the ovaries are estrogen and progesterone cause the uterine lining to regenerate during each menstrual cycle and also could be the reason for the growth of fibroids.
  • Family History is an important reason for almost every illness out there.
  • Pregnancy is said to increase the production of these hormones and hence women can be at high risk during pregnancy.
  • Age is another factor for fibroids.

Some of the symptoms of fibroids are heaving bleeding and blood clots during periods, constant lower back pain that would stay for days, increased urinating and pain while having sex, swelling or enlarged abdomen along with cramps during periods. If you are pregnant and doubt you are having fibroids then it is important for you to visit a safe hospital for pregnancy in Chandigarh or any other city you belong to. The cure for fibroids is surgical removal of the tumor or by laser.
